Got perma-banned from a gardening forum for asking about native plants
Last month I posted in a big gardening Facebook group asking if anyone else found it hard to find native milkweed instead of the tropical kind. Someone commented that I was 'gatekeeping gardening' and then the mods banned me within an hour. I tried to appeal and explain I just wanted to help monarch butterflies, but they said I was spreading 'divisive plant ideology'. Has anyone else gotten banned from a hobby group for asking a simple question like that?

Honestly I used to roll my eyes at the native plant crowd until I spent a whole summer watching monarch caterpillars die on tropical milkweed here in zone 7. The stuff was coated in some parasite or something, I don't know. @the_elizabeth is right, it's wild how a simple question about butterfly survival gets labeled as divisive now. It changed my whole view on what's actually helpful versus just pretty.

Right, because asking about milkweed is basically starting a war now apparently. Isn't it wild how wanting to help butterflies turns into 'divisive ideology'?
