Just got banned from a gardening forum for saying grass lawns are dumb

I posted in a local gardening group on Facebook about how I ripped out my front lawn in Phoenix last summer and put in desert plants instead. It was like $300 a month to water that grass and it never even looked good. I said something like 'lawns are a waste of water in the southwest' and the admin banned me within an hour. No warning, no discussion, just gone. The weird part is half the people in the group agreed with me in comments before the post got deleted. I guess the admin had a thing for green grass or something. Has anyone else gotten booted from a hobby group for just having a different opinion on something basic?

That actually reminds me of something I saw on the news last year about this guy in Nevada who painted his lawn green instead of watering it. He got fined by his HOA but then a bunch of people started doing it too. It's crazy how some folks get so attached to grass that they can't even hear a different idea. I think for a lot of people, a lawn is just what they grew up with so they don't question it. But out in the desert, keeping grass alive is basically fighting nature. Did you end up planting anything cool that actually survives the Phoenix heat?
