Just got my old Twitter account back after a 2 year ban for a dumb joke

Back in 2022, I made a sarcastic comment about a major news event. It was clearly a joke, but the mods didn't see it that way and hit me with a permanent suspension. I used to think you could just make a new account and move on. What changed was trying to organize a local meetup last month and realizing all my old contacts were gone. I finally filed a proper appeal, explaining the context, and they actually reinstated it last week. Has anyone else had luck getting an old ban reversed by just being calm and clear about it?

Actually had a similar thing happen with a gaming forum years back. Got banned for arguing about some patch notes, but after cooling off for a few months I sent a short, polite message to the admin. They let me back in, said my old posts were mostly fine anyway. Makes you wonder how many bans are just permanent bad moods.

Ever try just sending a short apology after some time passed? I did that on an old car forum after a blow up about engine specs. Like @blake_smith said, waiting to cool off was key. I sent one message saying I was wrong to get so heated, and the mod reversed it the next day. Makes you think most mods just want the drama to stop, not to keep people out forever.
