Paid $75 for a 'free speech friendly' VPN, then got banned from 3 forums anyway
A guy in a comment section told me a certain VPN would keep me from getting banned on any site, so I paid $75 for a year. Used it for 2 weeks and still got banned from 3 forums for stuff I posted, so the VPN did nothing for my actual problem. What really got me was reading the forum rules again and seeing that bans come from moderators reading my words, not from someone tracing my IP. Now I just read the rules before posting and skip the paid apps. Has anyone else bought something that was supposed to stop bans and found out it was useless?
Man, I feel this one deep in my soul. I once bought one of those "get rich quick" stock alert subscriptions for like $40 a month because some guy online swore it would pay for itself in a week, and all I got was a bunch of emails telling me to buy stuff that immediately tanked. The real kicker is that I could have just read the fine print, which literally said results were not typical. So yeah, you paid $75 to learn that moderators read words, not IP addresses, and I paid $40 a month to learn that a guy selling stock tips online is probably not a stock genius. At least we both figured it out without losing the farm. Reading the rules first is free, which is my kind of price.
