Spent $40 on a burner phone to post on a local forum, got the number flagged anyway
I bought a cheap prepaid phone just to comment on a town planning debate after my main account got banned. The forum's mods must have flagged the new number's area code, because it was blocked within a day. Has anyone found a way around this kind of IP and device tracking that actually works?

Man, I used to think mods were just guessing too, but this stuff is way more common now. @shanewells has a point about the effort, but some local forums have automatic systems that flag any number from a new provider in the area. I tried a VoIP app number once and it worked for a bit longer, but even that got caught eventually. They really don't want banned people coming back.

Burning forty bucks just to argue about zoning seems like a lot of effort. Are the forum mods really that powerful, or maybe they just spot obvious new accounts from the same town? It's a local debate, not national security. Maybe just take the L and use the phone for something else.
