That debate sub mod told me to 'read the room' and I still feel it was unfair
Honestly, I got into this argument on a debate sub where someone said all construction workers are sexist. I told them that's a generalization and named 3 women I work with who run crews. The mod banned me for 'derailing' and said I was tone-deaf. I get that the original post was about a specific bad experience, but does every counter-example get treated like an attack? What's the line between sharing a perspective and getting punished for it?

My buddy Tim got banned from a local history group on Facebook for saying the town's old mill wasn't actually haunted, just had bad plumbing that made weird noises. The post was all about ghost stories, and he thought he was being helpful with facts. But the mod messaged him saying he was "ruining the fun" and gave him a week suspension. Thing is, Tim is a history teacher and knows the building's records inside and out. He wasn't trying to attack anyone, just share what he knew. Seems like some mods get power-trippy when you don't go along with the group's mood, even if you're not being rude.
