Vent: Got banned from a recipe site for questioning ingredient substitutions
I was on AllRecipes and commented on a banana bread recipe that replacing 2 cups of sugar with honey would change the texture completely. Someone jumped on me about being rude, but I was just trying to help. The mods gave me a warning, then a 3 day ban, then a permanent ban after I pointed out the original poster asked for honest feedback. What tipped me off was when I looked back at my comments - I realized I had been coming across as condescending without meaning to. I used phrases like 'actually that won't work' and 'you should try this instead' which probably rubbed people wrong. Has anyone else gotten banned from a cooking forum just for being too direct about techniques?

Wait, isn't honey way sweeter than sugar too? Like you'd need way less honey than sugar, not just swap cup for cup. That would mess up the liquid ratio even more.
I got banned from a bread forum for telling someone their sourdough starter was dead, not just "sleepy". They'd been feeding it for two weeks with zero bubbles. People got mad I was too blunt.
Mods don't always side with the right person. Sometimes they just pick whoever complains first and loudest.
