I spent $85 on a VPN after my meme got removed in Turkey
I made a stupid joke about a politician and the next day it was gone from every platform there. The VPN got me back to posting but honestly I'm still spooked about who's watching now. Has anyone else had a post vanish in a specific country like that?

Holy hell, $85? For a VPN? That's like buying a steak dinner just to hide your dirty jokes from the internet cops. I mean, I get being spooked, that's a legit creepy feeling when your stuff just up and disappears like that, but man, that's a lot of cash for a little peace of mind. I'd be more worried about who's working at that VPN company than the Turkish government at that point, your mileage may vary though. You coulda bought like three rounds of cheap beer for that and just posted from a library computer.

$85 just for a stupid meme sounds about right for my luck. Probably the same people who watch me paint houses are watching you now, except you actually did something interesting.

Did you check if the VPN itself is logging your activity? It's a pretty common thing, some of them say they don't keep records but actually do behind the scenes. I had a client once who needed to hide some property sales from a foreign government and the VPN he picked sold his browsing data to an ad agency instead. Might be worth digging into that before you get too comfortable.
