I thought the meme about the bridge collapse was just dark humor until my cousin in Baltimore sent me the local news link.

The video clip showed the actual event from a different angle, and the meme's caption was a direct quote from a city official's statement that got pulled from their website. It hit me that the 'joke' was the only place online you could even find that quote anymore. How many other 'banned' memes are just the last copy of a fact someone wants gone?

My buddy in Seattle said the same thing happened with a city council zoning map. The "funny" edit someone made was the only version left that showed the original proposal before they changed it.
