The meme that got my friend banned from a Facebook group got me thinking

I saw a friend post a simple cartoon about a political double standard, something I've seen a dozen times before, and within an hour it was gone and he got a 30 day ban. The group said it violated 'hate speech' rules, but honestly it was just a politician doing something hypocritical. Makes me wonder how many of these bans are actually about protecting platforms versus protecting certain viewpoints, anyone else notice a pattern with which memes actually get taken down?

Wait, is this really that big of a deal though? I mean, Facebook groups are private spaces with their own rules, not some government agency. The group admin probably just didn't like the meme and used hate speech as an easy excuse to ban him. It's their group, their call, even if it's a dumb one. People get way too worked up about getting banned from online groups. It's like getting kicked out of a bar for talking too loud - annoying, sure, but not some deep conspiracy about free speech. Your friend can just make his own group or find another one that allows political cartoons. There's a million of them. Now, if you're talking about the actual reason the meme was taken down, that's a different story. Sometimes memes get flagged by accident or by someone who just doesn't get the joke. I've seen people report stuff for "harassment" that was just someone disagreeing with them. It's a weird system, but it's not some grand plot. Let's be real here. Most of these bans are just overzealous mods or automated systems making mistakes. It sucks for your friend, but complaining about "protecting viewpoints" sounds a little dramatic. Maybe he should just laugh about it and move on.

Oh great, another person who thinks getting banned from a Facebook group is like getting banned from a dive bar. Guess your friend should just roll over and start his own group about how memes are totally fine unless you're secretly a cyborg. Yeah that'll work out great, just like starting a band because you got kicked out of one. The whole "just laugh and move on" thing is rich when you're not the one who got labeled a hate speech spreader over a cartoon. Also comparing it to talking too loud in a bar is hilarious, since that's way more about being annoying than having your whole reputation smeared. Does your friend get a free t-shirt for being the next martyr of internet drama or is that just reserved for the mods?
