The 'offensive' Pepe strip from 2016 that got my old art group shut down

I was going through my old hard drive last week and found a folder from a college art collective I ran with two friends in Portland. We made a satirical comic riffing on that famous Pepe frog image, poking fun at how both sides were co-opting him back then. The school's social media manager saw it, called it hateful, and the whole page got suspended within 48 hours. At the time I was furious, but honestly now I look at it and it was pretty edgy, not great art. The funny part is, that same image is basically everywhere now, just with different colors and captions. It made me wonder if getting banned is less about the content and more about who posts it first. Has anyone else had an old meme get them in trouble, then watched it go totally mainstream later?

48 hours is wild. The whole page gone that fast, no chance to even defend it or explain what you were going for. And now the same Pepe is on every brand's Instagram story. Makes you wonder if the school just needed a scapegoat that week.
