A professor at my old school told me my research question was 'too political' to ask in a survey

This was in a political science methods class at State U, and the question was about funding for campus police. He said it would 'cause trouble' and told me to pick something else. Has anyone else been told their academic work was too hot to handle?

Too political" for a political science class is wild.

Political science is literally the study of government and power. What exactly are people expecting to be taught, if not current political issues? Seems like some folks just don't want their views challenged.

Paigem76 has a point, but maybe the professor was thinking about the practical side. A survey on campus police funding could make some students feel unsafe just taking it, or cause real arguments in class. Sometimes you have to pick a research question that people will actually answer honestly without feeling pressured.
