Got my campus group shut down for handing out a booklet last fall

I tried to table for about 3 hours near the student union giving away a small booklet on free speech and the history of campus restrictions... a dean came by and said I needed prior approval for any 'expressive materials'. They closed our table down after 45 minutes total. Has anyone else had a group stopped for something as simple as a pamphlet or flyer?

Wait wait wait, they shut you down for handing out a free speech pamphlet? That is wild lol. A dean actually came by in person to stop you? That feels like something out of a dystopian movie. I get that campuses have rules but stopping someone from giving away a booklet is just crazy to me. Like what were they afraid of, that people would read something? I hope you appealed or fought it somehow because that just doesn't seem right at all.

A dean actually walking over in person just to shut down a pamphlet table? That is some heavy handed stuff right there. It makes me wonder if someone higher up complained or if they were just that scared of what the pamphlet said. Like you said, what were they afraid of, people learning something? I remember back at my school they tried to pull something similar with a student group handing out copies of the Constitution on campus and it caused this huge uproar.
