Lost $120 on a debate club registration that got shut down mid-semester

Signed up for a regional tournament back in March, paid the entry fee and hotel deposit. Two weeks later the school pulls the club's funding over a topic list that included a guest speaker someone on the board didn't like. No refund, no reschedule. Club advisor said 'we're just following the guidelines' but nobody could show me the actual rule. Has anyone else eaten a fee when their group got banned halfway through?
