My old college paper got flagged by a filter bot and it took 11 days to unsnarl
Back in 2019 I wrote a piece for the student paper at a school in Ohio about the campus speech policy itself, and a comment filter auto flagged it as harassment because of one dumb word match. Took 11 days to get a human to look at it. I emailed the IT desk 4 times, the adviser twice, and even the dean of students once. What finally fixed it was a 2 sentence note from a student worker who just overrode the block. Eleven days for a 40 second fix. The whole thing made me realize these speech blocks on campus rarely come from a person deciding anything, they come from a script nobody wants to own. If your post or paper ever gets eaten by one of these systems, ask for the actual rule that fired and who can override it. Has anyone else waited over a week just to get a filter bot's bad call reversed?
