My professor refused to let me present my research on local zoning disputes, said it was too 'divisive' for a public speaking class.
It happened last Tuesday in a community college in Portland, and I just stood there for 10 seconds before packing up my slides, since when is arguing about where a new apartment building goes considered dangerous speech?

Wait, does your professor think zoning laws are somehow political but a public speaking class isn't?

That bit about "political" is tricky. I had a prof who said the same thing about a media analysis class I took. What worked for me was asking directly in office hours. I said something like "how is zoning political but public speaking isnt?" He ended up admitting public speaking is political too once you think about who gets to speak and who doesnt. It changed how I saw the whole class. Sometimes you gotta push back a little.
