Rant: my college shut down my guest speaker over a $250 fee

I booked a local journalist to talk about press freedom on my campus in Ohio. The admin said their views might 'create tension' and demanded a $250 event insurance fee at the last minute. I paid it out of pocket, but they still canceled the room booking the day before. Now I'm out the cash and my club looks like we can't plan anything. Has anyone else had admin quietly kill an event with surprise fees?

Ohio admin pulled the same thing on our paper, charged us $300 then said the room was booked.
