The 1,000th banned book got my attention today
I keep a running list of challenged titles at our county library for my own curiosity. Hit 1,000 entries this morning, which felt huge until I checked and saw that's like 0.4% of what the ALA tracks nationally. I mean, my list stops at our little branch in Ohio, so the real number must be insane. Does anyone else keep tabs on local bans or is this just my weird hobby?

Same here, my school district's list just passed 300 and it's only the kids' section.

Only the kids' section" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there, like that's supposed to make it less wild. 300 books just for the little ones, and I'm over here acting proud of my 1,000 like I didn't just spend a whole weekend alphabetizing a list of things people are mad about. Maybe we should compare notes and see if we're both banning the same Judy Blume titles, could start a support group. I'm honestly waiting for someone to try banning the dictionary next, seems like the natural progression at this point.
