Vent: Got my poster taken down at the campus free speech wall last week
I put up a flyer for a debate on the history of campus protests at my school in Ohio. It had a picture of a 1960s sit-in. Campus security took it down in under an hour, saying it 'could incite disruption' and wasn't approved. The official student government posters right next to it were fine. It wasn't even about a current event, just a historical discussion. Made me realize how vague the rules are about what counts as 'disruptive'. Has anyone else had a totally normal event flyer get removed like that?

Oh come on, that's ridiculous. They called a history talk disruptive? Sounds like they just didn't like the topic. The rules are always vague so they can take down whatever they want. My friend had a bake sale flyer removed for "blocking the view" of an empty bulletin board.

Ugh, this is exactly how it works everywhere now. Honestly, it's not just about flyers or campus rules. It feels like any time someone doesn't like something, they just make up a vague reason to stop it. They never just say the real reason. I see it with my landlord, my old job, you name it. The rule is always some tiny excuse that doesn't make sense, because they can't admit they just don't want you to do the thing.

Yeah, the "blocking the view" thing is wild. My buddy tried to put up a small flyer for a board game night on one of those kiosks. They said it was a "fire hazard" because it was covering like, one inch of the campus map. The map you can see perfectly fine from every angle. It was just a paper flyer with tape on the corners.
