A barber in Portland showed me a trick with warm towels for hard beards

I was at a shop in Portland last month watching a guy handle this really wiry, thick beard. He used a warm towel for like 3 minutes before even touching the clippers and it made the hair way softer to cut. Have any of you tried that for coarse textures?

Man, I've seen this at like three different barbershops over the years and honestly it's hit or miss. I got a buddy with hair like steel wool and the warm towel trick helped a little but he still had to sit there for 20 minutes getting his beard trimmed. I tried it once at home with a regular towel from the dryer and it just felt wet and weird, not like the fancy ones they use. Plus my tap water isn't hot enough to get a towel steaming like they do in Portland, so your mileage may vary big time.

Hey @sage_morgan75, did you ever try microwaving a damp towel for like 30 seconds? I had a buddy who swore by that trick after his barber showed him, and it actually worked decent for softening his coarse beard before a trim.
