A regular told me my fades felt 'scratchy' on the back of his neck

He said it felt like I was using a dull blade on the final pass. I checked my trimmer and realized I was using a 0000 blade for everything, even the clean-up. I switched to a fresh 000 blade just for that final neckline pass and the difference was instant. Anyone have a better blade combo for a smooth finish on sensitive skin?

Switched to a 000 blade for the final pass, fixed that scratchy feel completely.

That's a really fine blade for a final pass. What razor are you using that can handle a 000 without clogging up? I've had mixed results with anything past a 0000.

Wait hold on, I gotta say something on that 000 blade thing. It's not actually designed for a final neckline pass, at least not by itself. The 0000 is the standard finishing blade, but the trick isn't just swapping to a 000 it's about using a 000 with a fresh zero-gap adjustment on your clipper or trimmer. I run a 0000 for the bulk fade work but for that last neckline cleanup I use a 000 zero-gapped to the point where it barely leaves any blade exposed. That combo lets me get a super close finish without the drag that causes the scratchy feeling. Too many guys skip the zero-gap step and then blame the blade.
