Clipper blade gap was my problem for 3 years straight

I kept getting inconsistent fades and thought it was my hand motion until a buddy at a barber expo in Dallas checked my clippers and said the blade gap was totally off. Anyone else ever have a basic maintenance thing mess up their cuts for way too long?

Wait, you mean I spent three years blaming my shaky hands when it was just the clippers being jerks? Man, that hits close to home. I once spent six months thinking I was terrible at blending just to find out my clipper blade had a tiny bent tooth from when I dropped it on the bathroom tile. Felt like the universe was just messing with me that whole time. Made me wonder if half the YouTube tutorials I watched were actually for people with working clippers. How do you even check the gap without feeling like you're gonna break something?

Man I've noticed this everywhere not just barbering. My dad spent a year blaming his washing machine for shaking only to find out the floor was uneven under it. Same thing with my buddy who thought his car was dying but it was just a loose gas cap. People always assume we're the problem when half the time the tool or the setup is just off. It's wild how quick we go to "I suck at this" instead of checking the basics.
