Had to choose between a straight razor shave and a hot towel beard trim for a nervous client

Guy came in last Friday, hands were shaking a bit, said he hadn't had a proper barber shave in years. I could either go with my usual straight razor routine or switch it up to a hot towel trim with shears to ease him in. I went with the hot towel first to relax him, used my Andis shears after. It worked great, he chilled out and even booked his next cut. Anyone have a go-to move for first-time shave clients who seem anxious?

Smart move starting with the hot towel. I'd be nervous too if someone came at my face with a straight razor right off the bat. Good call.

Smart move not going straight for the blade. Reminds me of when @the_matthew tried to fix his own sink and almost flooded the place. Sometimes you gotta start with the simple tools to avoid a total disaster. A shaky guy and a straight razor sounds like a recipe for a story that ends with an ambulance. Good call on the hot towel, that's just basic human decency.

Totally get that, and @adamellis is right. Good call building trust first.
