I finally took my own advice after a chat with a 20-year barber last Tuesday

This guy named Ray told me I was rushing my fades to get people out the door faster. He said "your blend is your signature, not your speed." Made me slow down and focus on the sectioning, and my tips actually went up by 15 bucks that week. Anyone else had an old timer call them out on something that changed their whole approach?

The way I read it, that 15 bucks wasn't really about the money it was proof that slowing down actually made his customers happier. Sometimes the real change is just trusting a stranger's gut over your own habits for once. Maybe the real breakthrough is realizing you were fighting the process instead of letting it work for you.

Take the advice, don't take the advice, whatever. But acting like a 15 dollar tip is some kind of spiritual awakening is a little much.

Question whether a 15 dollar tip bump is really life changing, man. Like yeah it's cool he gave you advice and all but let's not act like slowing down your whole process over one guy's opinion is some kind of breakthrough. I've had plenty of barbers tell me different stuff over the years and most of it was just their personal preference not some universal truth. Your tips went up 15 bucks that week could have just been a busy Friday or someone having a good day. Don't overthink it.
