Just figured out my clipper work was flat because I was gripping too hard, and a guy at the shop in El Paso pointed it out
So last Tuesday this old barber named Manny, who rents the chair two down from me, watched me do a taper on a regular and after the guy left he said my clipper hand looked like I was trying to choke it out. I got kind of defensive at first because I have been cutting for 3 years and nobody ever said that. But then he had me hold my clippers with just my fingertips and do a few passes on a mannequin head, and the difference was nuts. Turns out I was squeezing so hard that my wrist locked up and I was digging into the fade instead of letting the blade glide. I went home and did about 40 minutes of practice passes on a foam head just holding it loose, and my next two cuts on Thursday came out so much cleaner. I was getting that line where the fade steps and I always blamed the guard or my angle, but it was my grip the whole time. Now I catch myself checking my hand pressure every few minutes like some kind of weirdo. Has anyone else had a grip or posture thing that a vet caught before you did? Would love to hear what else I might be doing without knowing.
