Just watched a barber in a Denver shop use clipper oil on his shears

That's a great way to ruin a $200 pair of Japanese steel shears in under a month. Has anyone else had to correct this for a new hire?

My old mentor in Chicago swore by clipper oil for everything.

Shudder just thinking about it. Clipper oil is way too thin, it’ll seep right into the pivot and mess up the tension. Shears need a proper oil, not that stuff you use on the clipper blades. I’ve had to pull a few new guys aside myself, it’s almost always the ones fresh out of barber school. They just don’t teach the small stuff anymore.
