Question about gel vs. hard part, the old guy at the shop on 5th in Tulsa proved me wrong
I figured hard parts were a gimmick to sell extra cuts until my client Hank showed me his 30-year-old tube of gel still holding a line from 1994. Now I'm second-guessing my whole stance, so what do you all use for a part that stays put past week one?
Gel was the standard for ages, and there is a reason for that. Read somewhere that hard parts got popular again partly because of barber tik toks and partly because guys wanted that sharp line without waiting on gel to dry. But hold on, 30 years in a tube? That stuff would be crusty by now, unless Hank is not opening it much. My barber told me hard parts work best when the hair is cut to fall that way, so the part is doing less work than people think. When it is cut right, even cheap gel can hold a line past a week, no gimmick needed.
