Serious question, dealing with thick neck hair that grows in multiple directions
I used to get tugging and uneven cuts on thick neck hair. Now I go against the grain in small sections, and it's much smoother! What do you all do?

Have you tried a really solid pre shave routine to soften things up first? I found washing my neck with hot water and using a good gel or oil makes a HUGE difference before I even touch the razor. That prep work lets your against the grain method work even better because the hair is way more manageable. Using a fresh, sharp blade is non-negotiable too, it just glides through. It totally turns the whole shave around and cuts down on the irritation and bumps.

Cold water works better (no kidding) for sensitive skin.

Honestly, I'm shocked you say a sharp blade is non-negotiable. Tbh, I've used kinda dull blades before and still got through a shave without major issues. Ngl, for thick neck hair, I feel like the shaving direction and taking small sections matter way more. I always go with the grain first to trim it down, then against it carefully like the op said. Calling a fresh blade non-negotiable seems over the top to me, because good prep can make even an okay blade work fine. My skin is less irritated when I focus on my routine, not just the blade sharpness.
