Took me six months to realize my clipper blades were dull because I was oiling them wrong

Oh jeez, six months is rough. But are you sure it was just the oiling? I mean, dull clippers usually happen from cutting dirty or damp hair, not just from oiling wrong. You gotta make sure you're cleaning the blade gap with a brush before you oil, otherwise you're just pushing gunk deeper into the machine. If you're still having trouble, try a ceramic blade set, they hold an edge way longer than steel.
