Got a 7-day ban from a big gaming forum for hitting 1000 posts about a bug fix

I was just sharing a workaround for a common glitch in a popular game, and my post count hit 1000 exactly when I hit submit. The mods said it was 'spammy self-promotion' because I linked to my own short video showing the fix. Some folks think any link to your own content is wrong, but others say helpful fixes should be allowed. Has anyone else been banned for sharing their own helpful guides?

Used to think helpful links were fine but this changed my mind about how forums handle things.

Was it really a 7-day ban just for that? That seems way too harsh for a helpful post.

Check the forum rules first. They probably have a strict no self promo policy, even for helpful stuff.
