Got banned from a local hiking group for posting a picture of a shortcut trail
I found a quicker way up to the ridge at Eagle Rock last weekend and shared it. The mods said it was 'encouraging unsafe practices' and booted me immediately. Is sharing a trail find really that bad, or are groups just too strict now?

Man, that's ridiculous, they're way too uptight.

What if they're not being uptight but covering themselves legally? @charlesk65, I've seen places get sued for way less. Their rules might come from a lawyer, not just someone being a jerk. It feels over the top to us, but they're probably scared of getting in trouble. That fear makes them act this way.

Way too uptight" is exactly how I feel too, but I think there's more to it. It's like when a teacher makes a dumb rule because one kid ruined it for everyone, except here it's the whole company being extra careful. Honestly, being that tight just makes people resent the rules even more and look for ways around them.
