Got banned from a mom group for saying crib bumpers are still sold in 2024
I got kicked out of a 40,000 member parenting group on Facebook last Tuesday. Someone asked if bumpers were safe. I said no, and that they're actually banned for sale in the US since 2022 under the Safe Sleep Act. That one fact got me removed in under 10 minutes. The mods said I was fear mongering. Has anyone else been banned just for stating a law that goes against what the group believes?
The Safe Sleep for Babies Act got signed in May 2021 and the CPSC started enforcing the ban on crib bumpers in November 2022, so you were right on the facts. What probably got you kicked is that a lot of those groups are run by moms who used bumpers with their own kids and don't want to hear it was risky. I've seen the same thing happen when someone brings up the drop side crib ban from 2011. People take it as a personal attack on their parenting instead of just updated safety rules. The mods calling it fear mongering is wild though, since you were literally just saying what the law is.
