Got banned from a power tool forum for sharing a battery rebuild method
I posted step-by-step how to replace individual 18650 cells in a Makita 18V pack (with a spot welder from Amazon for $45). The mod said it was dangerous and people might burn their houses down, but I've done it 4 times now with zero issues. Has anyone else dealt with a group gatekeeping repair tips?

Wow, liability fears killing good know-how again.

Ugh, seriously! It's like every time someone finds a cool trick or a simple way to fix something, some lawyer somewhere gets worried and it all gets shut down. I remember my grandpa used to show me how to patch up a car radiator with a raw egg and pepper, and it actually worked for a while. But now everyone's so scared of getting sued that they'd rather just tell you to buy a whole new part. It makes sense from a business side, but it's a real shame for regular folks who just want to keep their stuff running. We're losing all that hands-on knowledge that gets passed down, and for what? A few less lawsuits that probably wouldn't have happened anyway.
