Got warned by a mod about using affiliate links in a review sub and brushed it off - permabanned next day

Posted a review of a cheap lens for my camera in a photography group. Someone said I should disclose my affiliate link. Thought they were being dramatic. Woke up to a permanent ban with no appeal. Anyone else get caught off guard by rules you skimmed over?

Power trip" feels like a stretch for just enforcing a rule you skimmed over.

That mod was way too quick with the ban hammer. Like seriously, did they even send you a single warning message first or just go straight to permaban? I got hit with something similar in a different group a while back and it made me realize some mods just have a chip on their shoulder about certain rules. You mentioned the group was for photography reviews - was this a big sub with thousands of members or a smaller niche one where mods are on a power trip? Sometimes those smaller groups have one or two mods who take everything personally. Also curious if you ever tried appealing through modmail or if they just ignored you completely after that.
