Appreciation post: Saw a bike left locked to a rack in downtown Portland for over a month, and watching it slowly get stripped taught me a lot about common failure points.

That's the brutal reality of street parking. A month is just a slow motion tutorial for thieves. The real lesson is to never give them that much time. If you have to leave a bike outside, use two different lock types and check on it daily. Even the best setup fails when nobody's watching.

Wait, isn't that just teaching you what parts are EASIEST to steal? The real failure point is leaving a bike locked up outside for a month straight. No lock survives that test. It's less about the bike's weak spots and more about giving thieves unlimited time to work.

Exactly, unlimited time is the real lock test nobody passes.
