Cable routing argument with a shop veteran that still bugs me
I was in this shop in Royal Oak last summer and this old guy who's been wrenching since the 80s told me I was wasting time doing full housing runs on a cross bike. He said split housing is fine and nobody will notice the difference in shifting. I argued that full housing keeps dirt out way better and gives consistent cable tension. What do you guys think, is there a real performance difference or is he right that I'm overthinking it?

Damn, did he at least admit that full housing stops mud from killing your shift cables mid-race? What was his reasoning for split being better besides "that's how we always did it"?
