Had a customer bring in a bike with the chain routed wrong on the derailleur today
It's the third time this month I've seen someone thread the chain over the top tab on a Shimano 105 RD-R7000 instead of between the pulleys. It shifts like garbage and grinds the cage. I just fixed it in 2 minutes and explained the proper path, but why does this keep happening? Anyone else run into this specific rookie move a lot?

My buddy runs a small shop and told me he saw this SAME thing three times in ONE WEEK last summer. One guy had even watched a video tutorial and still managed to loop the chain over the tab instead of through the pulleys. He said it's always the 105 R7000 too, not the Ultegra or anything else. I guess the way that tab sticks out makes people think it's part of the pulley path. The noise it makes is UNREAL, like grinding gravel in a coffee can. He just smiles, fixes it in two minutes, and hands it back with a "no charge" just to keep people coming back.

Man that's such a classic rookie trap with the 105s, I swear the tab design just ASKS for it. Good on you for fixing it quick and not charging, that's the kind of move that builds customer loyalty for life.
