Hot take: a customer told me his chain only lasted 800 miles and I almost laughed in his face

Guy picks up his bike yesterday and says his chain is done after 800 miles, and he wants to know why it wore out so fast. I checked it, and sure enough it was stretched past 0.75 percent, but he never once cleaned it or lubed it the whole time, just rode it through every rainstorm since April. So what do you tell a customer like that without sounding like a jerk?
