Just hit my 500th wheel true at the shop this morning
I've been a mechanic for about 4 years now and this morning I pulled my 500th wheel off the truing stand. It was just a basic old mountain bike wheel with a minor wobble but the number caught me off guard. I never counted or anything but the shop owner mentioned it when I asked about our stand usage logs. Has anyone else ever tracked how many wheels they've trued over the years or am I just weird for finding it interesting?

500 wheel trues? That's basically a whole bike shop worth of wobbles and dings. Hope your thumbs still work, buddy. Mine would be ground down to nubs by then. You're not weird for finding it interesting, you're just realizing you've spent way too much time staring at spinning metal. Congrats on the milestone, now go get a beer or something. Your hands earned it.

Ngl that's a solid milestone and I get why it caught you off guard. But here's what I'm wondering how many of those 500 wheels actually came back with the same wobble a week later? Because in my experience some folks treat their wheels like they're indestructible and expect one true to fix a bent rim forever. It's gotta be frustrating putting in that kind of work just to see the same bike roll in with the same side to side dance a month later. Were most of those your standard "I hit a pothole" jobs or did you get a lot of regulars who actually took care of their stuff?
