Just realized how much a simple trick from a race mechanic changed my bottom bracket work

Honestly, I was at the Sea Otter Classic last month watching a mechanic from a pro team service a bike. He put a tiny bit of grease on the threads of the plastic bearing press tool itself before pushing in the new bearings. Tried it back at the shop in Boulder on a creaky BB30, and the bearing slid in perfectly straight without any binding. Has anyone else picked up a small tip like that from watching someone at an event?

Oh man, that's a great one! I saw a mechanic use a cable end cap to stop a fraying housing and it blew my mind.

My old boss in Santa Cruz swore by a dab of dish soap on press-fit seatposts.
