My old 3-in-1 cable cutter was the problem, not me
For like 8 years I fought with housing and cable ends, always blaming cheap parts or my shaky hands. Last month I finally bought a proper Park Tool cable cutter after my buddy Shawn watched me struggle and said 'dude, your tool is toast.' The difference is night and day. My old cutter would crush the housing instead of slicing clean, leaving those little burrs that made shifting feel mushy. Now I get a perfect cut every single time and the cables slide through housing like butter. I used to file every housing end after cutting, now I don't even check them. Has anyone else had a basic shop tool secretly hold back their work for years?

Honestly sounds like you just needed to tighten up your technique, not drop cash on a hype tool. A decent cutter with a sharp blade does the same job, just maybe takes a few extra seconds.
