Old shop guy told me to stop using Park Tool grease on headsets. He was right.

Oh man, I've been using that stuff for years on everything. I figured if it's good enough for bottom brackets, it's good enough for headsets. Guess I was just building myself a nice little creak museum. Now I'm stuck with this tub of green goo that's apparently only good for putting on sandwiches.

Hold up, that green goo has saved me more times than I can count on older bikes with rusty cups. If you're getting creaks it's probably from not cleaning the mating surfaces properly, not the grease. Keep using it for headsets and save yourself some money on fancy boutique stuff.

Haha "creak museum," that's a good one. I've definitely been guilty of using the same grease for everything too, just because it's what I had lying around. Honestly, I've had more creaks from not properly cleaning the cup and bearing races than from the grease itself. But yeah, I can't say I've ever tried eating it on a sandwich, but I'm sure it would taste like regret and aluminum filings.
