Serious question, a customer told me my brake pad alignment was 'lazy'

He brought in his gravel bike after I did a full service, pointed out that the pads were hitting the rim at a slight angle instead of square. I started using a headlamp and a white background to check every pad now, not just eyeball it. Does anyone else have a specific trick for getting that perfect vertical contact every time?

Lol that's such a weird way to put it. My old boss used to just yell "eyeballs aren't tools!" and throw a ruler at you.

Oh man, I just use a business card as a straight edge.

Read a trick once from some old mechanic blog about using a piece of printer paper folded over the rim as a quick alignment gauge. The paper gives you a perfect flat reference, so you can see instantly if the pad is hitting square or not. Saves you from having to hold a ruler or business card in the dark.
