Showerthought: the old guy at Ray's Bike Shop in Portland taught me more about wheel building in 20 minutes than a year of videos
Stopped by Ray's on SE Division last month to grab spokes and he watched me tension a wheel for about 2 minutes before walking over and plucking one spoke. He said "feel that? that's your problem right there" and showed me how to hear uneven tension instead of just staring at a truing stand, and I've been doing it by ear ever since. Funny how 30 years of hands on experience beats any tutorial. Anyone else pick up a trick from an old timer that you still use daily?
