Swapped my bench grinder for a spindle sander on brake pads
Used to hand-file every pad until my wrist gave out after 3 sets. Now I knock them down in 2 minutes flat with a 1 inch spindle and the finish is way more even. Anyone else running this setup for pad shaping?

Heard a guy at the local shop talk about doing this exact thing a while back. Said it saved his hands too, but he warned about going too aggressive with the grit on soft pads. Sounds like you got the technique down though, two minutes is wild compared to the old way. Might have to dig my spindle sander out of the garage and give it a shot this weekend.

That bit about going too aggressive on soft pads is solid advice, I learned that the hard way with a used pair of gloves. Once you find the right grit though, it really is night and day compared to hand sanding, my wrists don't ache near as much after a long project. Might be worth breaking out that spindle sander sooner than later, I know I'm never going back to the old method for this kind of work.
