Vent: That one old timer at the co-op told me to stop greasing pedal threads and I still think he's wrong

After 3 stripped crank arms on my beater bike last summer I gave it a try dry, and now I'm wondering if anyone else has found pedal installation without grease actually works long term?

My buddy Dave swore by dry installs for years after he stripped his left pedal on a 2009 Fuji touring bike going up a steep hill in Vermont. I finally tried it last winter on my old Trek 520 and after about 400 miles of commuting in slush and salt, the pedals came off without a fight. The threads looked clean, no galling at all. I think that old co-op guy might actually be right for steel crank arms at least.

Yeah man, Vermont hills can punish bad pedal installs for sure. Glad the dry method worked out for you, steel cranks seem to handle it way better than aluminum.
