Thought clip-in pedals were a scam for commuters til I ate pavement at a stoplight on 4th ave
So I've been biking to the bar where I work for about 2 years now, and I always ran cheap flat pedals because everyone online said clipless was just for roadies in spandex. Then about 3 months ago my calves kept cramping on the 3 mile ride home and a regular at my bar who used to race told me to just try it. Found a used pair of SPDs on Marketplace for 40 bucks and figured worst case I'm out a couple six packs worth of cash. First week was rough, I tipped over at a stoplight on 4th ave in front of like 15 people and felt like a total idiot. But after about 2 weeks of messing with the tension screw something just clicked and now my knees hurt way less on the hill by the bridge. I'm not saying it's for everyone but I was dead wrong about it being pointless for a commuter. Anyone else stubborn about gear stuff and then have to eat crow?
