Appreciation post: How "Breaking Bad" changed what a binge show could feel like

I remember when my buddy loaned me the first season on DVD back in 2009, and I thought it was good but slow. Now I see how that slow burn setup made the whole thing hit harder when I finally binged all 5 seasons in 3 weeks last fall. Anyone else feel like shows before that era just didn't have the same kind of payoff?

Jumped right in with the same thing actually. My buddy kept telling me to stick with it and man was he right. That first season felt like setup but when you binge the whole thing in a couple weeks the payoff hits like a truck.

...and honestly if you're just now binging it for the first time, my advice is to pay close attention to the little details in the early seasons. Stuff like the pink teddy bear or Walt's subtle facial expressions when he's lying - those moments build up and pay off way better if you catch them on the first watch. I tell people to watch with subtitles too because the background noise and phone calls have clues you might miss. Did you notice how the camera work changes as Walt gets more unhinged?
