Had a chat with my neighbor last night that changed how I watch shows now

He's retired and watches like 4 shows a week, so I asked him how he picks what to binge. He said he stops after episode two if the writing feels lazy and doesn't look back. I always force myself through seasons hoping it gets better, but he made me realize I'm just wasting my own time. Started doing that with a show I was on episode 5 of last week and it felt oddly freeing. Anyone else have a hard rule like that for when you bail on a series?

My neighbor's rule is almost exactly the same except he gives it four episodes, not two. He says two is too short for shows that take a while to find their feet, but four is enough to know if they have any clue what they're doing. Does your neighbor have any exceptions for really well-reviewed shows, or does he stick to the two episode rule no matter what?

Four episodes? I give shows three but my attention span gives them one.

Why do people treat watching TV like a homework assignment they have to finish? I used to be the same way, plowing through whole seasons of garbage. Now I give a show exactly two episodes, maybe three if someone I trust says it gets better later. Life is too short to watch bad TV.
