My mom called my Wednesday night watch party 'just TV' and I realized she used to wait a whole week for the next episode
My mom swung by while I was three episodes into a show and asked why I was rewatching something I finished on Sunday. When I said I like having it on in the background she just shook her head and said that is not watching, that is noise. She grew up with one TV in the house and if you missed Thursday at 9pm you waited until summer reruns, so finishing a season in two nights honestly bugs her a little. I tried to explain that half the fun is texting my friend in Cleveland about a twist at 11pm while she is still on episode two, but she says nobody talks about shows anymore, they just consume them. It got me thinking about how I banged out a whole season in one weekend and could not name a single character a week later. Meanwhile she still quotes lines from stuff she watched in high school because she had seven days to think about each one. Do you all find that slower watching sticks with you more, or is it just me getting old?
